Malaysia Technology Expo 2006 (MTE 2006)

The Malaysian Association of Research Scientists (MARS) will organise Malaysia Technology Expo 2006 (MTE 2006), an annual trade-focused exhibition aimed at providing the perfect platform of opportunities for the Science, Technology and Innovation industry in Malaysia.

Scheduled to be held from 23 to 25 February 2006 at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur, MTE 2006 aims to promote the significance of science and technology and the importance of new inventions in research and development (R&D). The mega event is expected to draw participation from more than 10,000 trade visitors, policy makers, top Malaysian researchers and industry players from an array of expertise, including medical sciences, ICT, multimedia, electrical and electronics, robotics and biotechnology.

"The fruition of MTE 2006 was spurred mainly by the generous portion of RM868 million from Budget 2006 for Research and Development (R&D)," said Dato' Dr Mohd Ariffin Hj Aton, president of MARS. "We are grateful towards the Government's initiative of this industry, which has come timely as Malaysia is currently riding on the crest of an exciting growth phase in the R&D industry. MTE 2006 aims to enhance the significance of Science and Technology and promote the importance of new inventions in various fields of R&D," he added.

MTE 2006 is endorsed by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and is supported by the Malaysian Institute for Nuclear Technology Research (MINT) and the nation's organisation for standardisation and quality, SIRIM Berhad.

Previously known as Science & Technology Expo, the event was recognised by the Malaysian Book of Records in 2001 as 'Malaysia's largest Science & Technology Event'. This year, the three-day trade event will have more than 100 exhibitors from the region and will showcase over 400 latest inventions and innovations.

To be held in conjunction with the grand-scale event is the prestigious 5th Invention & Innovation Competition 2006, which will run from 23 to 24 February 2006. The competition serves as the perfect platform for Malaysia's top inventors and innovators to showcase their creativity and ingenuity.

Outstanding researchers, scientists and inventors from Malaysia and overseas will vie for honours in 20 Science and Technology categories. Presented by MOSTI, winners from various categories stand to gain coveted opportunities to receive maximum international exposure by bringing their innovations and inventions to competitions in USA, Switzerland and South Korea. The competition is an avenue for participating companies to gain international recognition, business opportunities and increase awareness towards their inventions.

The illustrious Invention and Innovation Competition will be highlighted further with the inaugural Invention & Innovation Awards Nite 2006, a star-studded gala event which celebrates the achievements and dedication of outstanding inventors in the Science, Technology and Innovation fields. The Awards Nite will see a gathering of more than 300 top Malaysian researchers and inventors.

The three-day trade event is open to public. Public admission is free from 10.00am to 6.00pm

(23 & 24 February) and 10.00am to 5.00pm (25 February).
