MATTA School of Tourism, Malaysia

MATTA School of Tourism Sdn Bhd is wholly owned by MATTA to provide education and training for its members and the general public.

Courses vary from 2 days to 12 months and are conducted either in Wisma MATTA (K Lumpur), MATTA Training Centre (Ipoh), OUM Learning Centres or via distance learning.

Some of the courses offered by MATTA School of Tourism:

Mesra Malaysia
This is a 2 days training workshop on listening and communication skills. Participants who actively apply these newly acquired skills in their work place will immediately upgrade their level of customer service and also improve their relationships with family and friends. Successful participants will be awarded a Mesra Malaysia certificate issued by the Ministry of Tourism.

Career/Business Opportunities/Development
This course is suitable for everyone from newcomers to experienced executives as participants will go through the entire range of business activities engaged by MATTA members viz. Travel Agency, Outbound/Incentive Tour, Inbound/Domestic Tour, Tour Vehicle, Car Rental, MICE & Event Management and other tourism products such as MM2H. Staff will learn to build their careers on solid foundations and executives will discover and develop new business opportunities.

Tourist Guide
Tourist Guide is the only licensed profession in the tour industry. The licence can only be obtained after passing the exams set by the Ministry of Tourism upon completing a licensed tourist guide training course. Classes are conducted in the evenings from 6.30pm to 9.30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays in Wisma MATTA, Desa Pandan, Kuala Lumpur. The classes for Ipoh are full days on Fridays and Saturdays. The course and career is particularly suitable for matured working adults with good communication skills.

IATA/UFTAA Foundation Diploma
It is internationally recognised and the most valuable qualification (better than a degree) for staff working in travel agencies. The fee includes a training kit for the candidate to self study and the tutor can be contacted via phone/fax/email. There will be 3 full days classroom coaching in Kuala Lumpur just before the exams to help the candidates do well. They may choose to sit for either the March or September exams which are held annually.

Professional Diploma in Tourism
This is a CEO programme and only General Managers and above with a minimum of 10 years management experience will be invited to participate. The main objective of this programme is to expose and equip the leaders of the local travel and tours industry with new skills, knowledge and confidence to further strengthen their existing operations and venture into new businesses and opportunities. These already successful leaders are given Recognition of their Past Learning (RPL) and those invited to join this programme are also expected to form the think-tank for the industry.

Executive Diploma in Tourism
They are meant for degree holders who wish to acquire the necessary skills to work at an executive level in their chosen sector of the travel industry and also for experienced industry executives to develop themselves fully. These programmes are developed jointly by MATTA with the Institute of Professional Development-Open University Malaysia (OUM) and will be conducted at OUM Learning Centres such as in Angkasa Raya Building (Next to KLCC).
