The primary function of ibu (which means mother in Bahasa Melayu) is to provide support and information for pregnant women and the parents of babies and young children living in Malaysia. ibu welcomes families of all races, religions and creeds, and would like to encourage cross-cultural exchanges which take advantage of both our similarities and differences. ibu is operated entirely by volunteers and is a non-political, non-profit organisation. ibu also supports some local charities. ibu produces 'Bonda', a magazine full of information for families and detailing our services and activities. ibu's services are extended to families through monthly family outings, whilst on occasion, a parents' night out is held to enable some child free socialising amongst members. Books can be borrowed from the parenting and children's book library. ibu operates a baby equipment loan service, maternity clothes wardrobe and a winter woolly wardrobe of children's clothes. ibu facilitate playgroup networking, run well baby clinics which are staffed by professional volunteers and maintain an emergency blood donor register for members. Also, there are regular meetings of the Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Support groups and coffee mornings that all members are welcome to. Besides the services outlined above, ibu holds an annual family market day. Proceeds from this activity are donated to charity. An ibu membership is valid for 12 months from the date your application is processed. The membership fee is RM120. Cheques can be made payable to “ibu Family Resource Group – KL”. Cash is also accepted if you choose to come in to the Drop-In Centre to join and have a look at the many services on offer.
